Days after publicly criticising President Yoweri Museveni over appointments to the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC), reports have emerged that the Commission's Chairperson, Mariam Wangadya, has tendered her resignation.
According to information circulating on social media and among political observers, Wangadya submitted a letter informing the appointing authority of her decision to step down from the country's top human rights body.
"I hereby tender my resignation as Chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission. I thank you for the opportunity to serve Uganda over the years in the promotion and protection of human rights," the letter reportedly reads.
The reported resignation comes only days after Wangadya sparked a political storm by accusing President Museveni of undermining the Commission through the type of appointments made to the institution.
