The people of Mukono District are still trying to come to terms with a heartbreaking incident that happened on the night of November 23, 2025.
A police officer, who was carrying out his duty during a robbery response, was shot dead in Ntawo.
The incident has sparked fear, anger, and deep sadness across the community.
According to a report from security sources who spoke to our newsroom, the late officer, ASP Bagenda Emmanuel, was the Officer in Charge of Ntawo Police Post.
He had left the station at around 10:25 PM together with his colleague PC Kiyingi Jackson after receiving information that robbers were escaping along Nakabago Road.
The two officers were riding on a police motorcycle registered UMA 879GQ as they rushed to block the suspects.
The robbers were said to be using another motorcycle, and the officers hoped to intercept them before they disappeared.
As they moved closer to the suspects, the robbers noticed the police and refused to stop. They rode past the officers at high speed.
In an effort to prevent their escape, ASP Bagenda rode ahead, leaving PC Jackson behind as he attempted to close in on the criminals.
It was at this point that the situation became deadly.
Security sources told us that PC Jackson was suddenly shot at as he tried to pursue the suspects.
The bullet hit him and forced him off the motorcycle, sending him crashing onto the ground.
Injured and unable to continue the chase, he was left helpless as the attackers sped into the darkness.
Meanwhile, ASP Bagenda, who had gone ahead, did not return or respond to calls from the officers trying to reach him.
His phone went unanswered, causing immediate concern among the officers coordinating the patrol.
PC Jackson was later discovered by responders and rushed to Mukono General Hospital.
Because his condition required more attention, he was transferred to Nakasero Hospital for advanced treatment.
Fortunately, he survived, although his firearm had been taken by the attackers during the assault.
Throughout the night, the Mukono District Police Commander led an active search for ASP Bagenda.
Officers combed through the area, hoping to find him alive or locate any clues that would point to the suspects’ direction.
Tragically, their worst fears were confirmed at dawn.
ASP Bagenda’s body was found in a trench near the scene, lying face down in a pool of blood. He had been shot in the head.
Four spent cartridges were discovered around him, signaling that the attackers fired multiple times before fleeing.
The motorcycle he had been using was later recovered and taken back to Ntawo Police Post as part of the evidence.
Investigators now believe that the suspects deliberately ambushed the officers, shot at them, and escaped with one of the police rifles.
The murder has raised serious questions about the level of planning behind the attack and whether the robbers had knowledge of police movements.
Detectives are now reviewing CCTV cameras in the area, hoping to find footage that captured the suspects or their motorcycle.
Police are also analyzing call records to identify any suspicious communication that may be linked to the crime.
Authorities have urged any witnesses to come forward, promising full protection to anyone willing to provide information.
The death of ASP Bagenda has left the Mukono Police Division devastated.
Fellow officers described him as a hardworking leader who always put the safety of the community first.
Residents who knew him also expressed sorrow, saying he was a friendly and committed officer who often responded quickly whenever they needed help.
