The education community and residents are mourning the death of Ssekade Tadoe, the director of King David Junior School, who was among those who lost their lives in the tragic Kapchorwa bus accident that also claimed the lives of some of his students.
His passing has left parents, teachers, former students and friends struggling to come to terms with the loss of a man many describe as humble, hardworking and deeply committed to education.
According to longtime friends and associates, Ssekade's journey to becoming a school proprietor was one marked by determination and perseverance.
Before venturing into the education sector, he reportedly worked in Kampala's Owino Market where he earned a living through the sale of second-hand clothes.
Friends say it was during those years in business that he developed the discipline and savings culture that would later change his life.
According to those close to him, the idea of establishing a school was first suggested by his sister, who encouraged him to invest in education.
Inspired by the proposal, Ssekade is said to have withdrawn his savings from a market SACCO and embarked on the ambitious journey of starting a school from the ground up.
"He started with very little but believed that education could transform lives," one family friend said.
What began as a modest institution gradually expanded over the years into King David Junior School, which grew to become a respected educational institution serving hundreds of learners.
Former colleagues and friends remember him as a calm and approachable individual who treated staff, parents and pupils with kindness and respect.
Many have described his death as not only a loss to his family but also to the wider education sector and the community that benefited from his efforts.
The tragedy has been made even more painful by reports that some students from the school also lost their lives in the same accident.
Messages of condolence have continued to pour in from former students, education stakeholders and members of the public, many paying tribute to a man whose life story inspired others to believe in humble beginnings and hard work.
Ssekade leaves behind a legacy built on determination, sacrifice and a belief in the power of education.
May his soul rest in peace.
