KAMPALA, Uganda — A viral social media post claiming that Uganda's Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, announced he had overthrown his father, President Yoweri Museveni, and declared himself Uganda's new president is false.
The claim has been widely shared through a screenshot that appears to show a post from Muhoozi's verified X account. The image quotes him as saying, "I have overthrown my father and I am now the President of Uganda. I am tired of pretending."
However, checks show there is no evidence that the post was ever published.
